Chapter ten
Lahash's Ruin
Agroup of knights riding hippobeaks led by a knight in black riding a velocigol slowed down as they entered a clearing in the forest. At a complete stop, Adelheid stared at the building in the middle of the clearing.
The edifice was cube-shaped with a length, height, and width of around a hundred meters. The passage of years had eroded the edges and left some blemishes on the building, but it wasnât hard to imagine how geometric it originally looked. More importantly, it had no hints of bricks or other construction materials. It appeared to have been carved from one single material.
Rather than a construction native to Veles, it seemed like something closer from Earth. At least in terms of appearance. The building immediately made Adelheid think of the magitech empire.
She had seen the notes and diagrams concerning Lahashâs Ruin, but it didnât dawn on her until she laid eyes on it. Even if it looked like something from Earth, that was impossible. No building could last so long if it was built during the magitech empireâs existence, even with the existence of magic.
A hint of expectations appeared in Adelheidâs heart. Perhaps this would be her breakthrough for information regarding the magitech empire. Her first goal was still on Lahashâs Diadem, though.
Adelheid ordered the tent to be set up. Even if her objective was inside, it didnât mean she would enter at the first chance. That would be beyond rash. Soon, two tents were erected along with a campfire.
The sun had just started to set and Adelheid stood in front of a table, surrounded by her knights. On the table was a diagram of the explored areas of Lahashâs Ruin. It wasnât the original but a recreation drawn from Adelheidâs memory.
However, the most crucial detail, the location of the artifact, was not recorded. It wasnât that Adelheid was unwilling to mark it down on her map, but it wasnât marked in the original. She didnât know if it was because the archive did not have the information or if it was purposely hidden. Regardless, she would have to search for it.
It was only now that the Adalgard Knight Order knew of Adelheidâs goal. Once they learned, most of them became excited. All of them were still young, and what people didnât have the hope of achieving greatness?
Although the direct beneficiary would be their liege, it would still mean that they would get to see something spoken of only in legends. Whatâs more, Adelheid promised rewards for them if they succeeded.
With the strategy meeting finished, everyone gathered around the pot above the campfire, except for the knight standing on watch. And even then, the knight on watch would glance toward the pot occasionally. He couldnât help it. The smell coming from the pot was too appetizing.
Adelheid decided to cook stew because of the cooler temperature. Because she used the chuck of the cow, a tougher cut, she started cooking it ahead of time to tenderize it and extract the flavor and collagen to naturally thicken the stew.
